Upper Division Science TeacherAbout the Park SchoolThe Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in education. Park's faculty encourages each student to strive for intellectual, physical, and moral growth and to become contributing members of the community.The Science Teacher is a member of the school’s Upper Division and reports to the Upper Division Head. This full-time, 10-month position comes with the responsibility of working with faculty and staff to support the school’s mission and curricular goals.Responsibilities
  • Teach four sections (one preparation) of middle school science
  • Design, plan, and implement creative and innovative student-centered lessons which demonstrate a deep understanding of the academic discipline, curriculum, instruction, child development, and best practices, aligned with the goals and mission of The Park School
  • Fosters a classroom environment where students feel comfortable to take risks, make mistakes, and be curious
  • Assess student performance and engagement, including academics, behavior, and social-emotional needs, while communicating directly with students, colleagues, and families both formally and informally when necessary
  • Oversee and serve as primary contact between home and school as an advisor of a small group of students
  • Establish and implement expectations for student safety and conduct; and procedures and routines, consistent with Park School policies.
  • Participate in the school community, including faculty and committee work, weekly school duties, and activities such as (e.g., Grandparents & Special Friends Day, Yule festival, Spring Break Silent Disco, May Day etc.).
  • Collaborate with all Park School employees as appropriate and consistent with Park’s policies, mission and values.
  • Participate in and contribute to an adult learning community by engaging in meetings, discussions, committees, task forces, and professional development.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion to keep multiculturalism and diversity as a priority of curricular work and curriculum development
  • Ensure that respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion, social emotional learning, and academic excellence are emphasized as core values of The Park School.
  • Complete administrative tasks and coverage duties as assigned (student supervision, attendance, reporting, documenting curriculum, event/activity coverage, etc.)
  • Meaningfully integrate technologies into class lessons, for student learning and growth
  • Utilize feedback and reflection to improve practice and performance
  • Meet expectations as defined by the Park School Employee Essential Expectations
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of teaching experience at the middle school level is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults
  • Strong communication skills, including experience in writing student comments and other school-related documents
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in teaching and learning & experience in working in a culturally diverse community.
  • Motivation for and interest in professional development
  • Ability to think independently along with being collaborative in a team environment
  • Skill in differentiating instruction

  • Effectively interpret, navigate, mediate, and resolve conflict with students and families in a timely manner.
  • The ability to hold meetings in person and via supported video conference tools (i.e. Zoom or Google Meet)
  • Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the school, such as Veracross, SchoolPass, Atlas etc.
Physical Requirements:
  • The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30 minute periods of time.
  • The ability to traverse on and across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).
  • The ability to lead, supervise and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency.
  • The ability to position oneself (e.g., stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down) in order to support students.
  • The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.
  • The ability to lift and hold 15 lbs overhead.
  • The ability to occasionally transport (e.g., move or drag) 25 lbs
  • The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment
