Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelors degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or other related field.
  • 3 years’ experience in government affairs, public policy, administrative rule making, or other legislative advocacy work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Masters degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or other related field.
  • A Juris Doctor.
  • 7 years’ experience in government affairs, public policy, administrative rule making, or other legislative advocacy work.
Roles/Responsibilities
  • Analyze legislation to determine necessary changes to administrative rules to execute legislative intent.
  • Create and implement a plan to complete the entire rules promulgation process.
  • Communicate with all members of the Legislature on all matters affecting OJA.
  • Present written and oral recommendations to directors and administrators regarding administrative and internal policy changes and improvements.
  • Track relevant legislation throughout the legislative process.
  • Provide detailed analysis and recommendations of proposed legislation that affects OJA.
  • Assist in writing OJA requested legislation, administrative rules, and any amendments thereto.
  • Respond appropriately to requests received from legislators, state agencies, or members of the public.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of a thorough understanding of agency programs, trends and priorities, target audiences, appropriate goals and success indicators.
  • Knowledge of Oklahoma legislative principles and practices.
  • Ability to use superior communication skills, both oral and written, utilizing different communication styles; to present to executive level staff.
  • Ability to work on a diverse team and directly with people from diverse backgrounds specifically racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and disabilities.
  • Ability to consider the impacts of the work and perspectives of multiple communities in technical analysis and outcomes of a decision-making process.
  • Skill in in policy analysis; in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in a complex political environment.
  • Skill in analyzing and solving complex problems, producing reports and interpreting data into meaningful reports and decision tools.
  • Ability to effectively use all Microsoft Office software.
