? Aurora, IL | ? 3–6 Month ContractWe are seeking a Mechanical Designer with web handling and converting machinery experience to join our engineering team on a 3–6 month contract. This role will focus on designing and developing large-scale converting and packaging equipment using SolidWorks. The ideal candidate is a skilled designer with hands-on experience, capable of collaborating with engineers, technicians, and builders to deliver practical and manufacturable solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign mechanical components and assemblies for web handling and converting equipment (unwind/rewind systems, rollers, tension controls, slitting, laminating, etc.).Develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks, including assemblies, weldments, and fabrication drawings.Apply sound engineering principles to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements.Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, assembly, and electrical engineering) to create practical, buildable designs.Participate hands-on in prototype builds, equipment assembly, and debugging to validate and improve designs.Assist with root cause analysis and implement design improvements for existing machinery.Support documentation such as BOMs, assembly instructions, and engineering change notices.QualificationsAssociate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or related field.3+ years of machine design experience, preferably in web handling, converting, or packaging machinery.Proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling, assemblies, weldments, drafting).Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with machinery, assembly, and troubleshooting.Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, fabrication).Understanding of pneumatics, drives, rollers, and motion systems for web handling applications.Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.PreferredExperience with large-scale machinery design and assembly.Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups.#inauto
