Description of WorkThe Piedmont Research Station is hiring an Agricultural Technician with growth potential for a fulfilling career in agriculture. Our mission is to serve as a platform for agricultural research to make farming more efficient, productive, and profitable, while maintaining a sound environment and providing consumers with safe and affordable products.This Agricultural Research Technician position will support research efforts in the Poultry Unit. Our ideal candidate will have skills and experience in general animal agricultural production and will participate in all facets of animal husbandry activities such as hatching, feeding, egg collection, and manure management.Responsibilities include:
  • Animal husbandry activities such as hatching, feeding, egg collection, and manure management.
  • General Facility and grounds maintenance
  • Ability to work in many different housing environments.
This position will work closely with other research station staff, including the dairy and crops team, to meet daily demands of research protocols and to contribute to the overall success of the Research Station's goals. This position will require weekends and holiday work on a rotational schedule.Benefits include:

  • General understanding of animal agriculture production.
  • Ability to operate various tractors and equipment commonly used in a farm environment.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision as well as in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs routinely and perform all work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Valid Driver's License
Must possess the following at the time of application or qualify for certification within six months of employment:
  • Public Pesticide Applicator License
  • Forklift Driver Certificate issued by the Research Division
  • Medical clearance to wear a half mask or full-face respirator with cartridges.
Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsYou may qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience, either through years of education or years of directly related experience, or a combination of both.
