  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Proof of high school graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience preferred in a state regulated childcare setting.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Physically able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Patient and caring.
  • Flexible and able to adjust daily routine at a moment's notice.
  • Willing to use personal transportation to drive from one school to another to cover employee absences (mileage is reimbursed).
  • Willing and able to participate in off-contract staff development as required by childcare licensing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with students, parents, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Demonstrate a professional attitude and appearance.
Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance.
  • Knowledge of Texas Department of Family & Protective Services standards preferred.
  • Available for pre-service training in First Aid, CPR and childcare work-study classes.
  • Support philosophy of Teen Pregnancy/Parenting Program.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:187 DaysSALARY/PAY GRADE:$21,739/IP-2 as approved by the Board of TrusteesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist and supervise children (ages 6 weeks to age 4) during all activities.
  • Develop, plan and prepare classroom activities in accordance with policies and philosophy of the program.
  • Gear activities to the individual child with concerns for his/her interests, special needs, special talents and individual style.
  • Physically arrange the classroom into well-defined interest areas.
  • Ensure that the appearance, cleanliness and safe environment of the classroom are appropriately maintained.
  • Ensure that all classroom/outdoor equipment is in good working condition and is used and maintained properly.
  • Complete all center/classroom paperwork (e.g., daily notes, student accident reports, medication authorizations and attendance records).
  • Communicate appropriate information to families.
  • Assist with activities in classroom to ensure that the classroom functions in an orderly manner.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by students
  • Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Motion: Frequent walking and reaching
  • Lifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non ambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hours
  • Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), exposure to noise, exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases)
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress
