- Develop engineering and construction work packages/ BOM/documentation for new installations, upgrades, and maintenance projects including fiber optics, SCADA, RTU, and LAN/WAN systems.
- Prepare and/or review substation and telecom construction drawings such as one-line diagrams, schematics, front views, and wiring diagrams.
- Design, mark-up and oversee detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations.
- Create/ Redesign electrical and/or physical drawings/ documentation using engineering software like AutoCAD, Bluebeam, GIS, and other design tools.
- Prepare and/or review substation construction drawings such as electrical arrangements, plan and section views, grounding, cable, and conduit drawings.
- Review/Conduct studies such as lightning protection, grounding, and equipment replacement and repair for substations.
- Conduct studies such as battery sizing, AC and DC station service sizing, voltage drop, CT saturation, etc.
- Coordinate with clients, internal/external teams, contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies for successful project execution.
- Conduct site surveys and inspections to assess existing infrastructure, including feasibility studies, risk analyses, and identify engineering requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of client files and design modifications.
- Manage/ Design multiple projects simultaneously
- Ensure compliance with ANSI, NESC, NEC, IEEE, and utility-specific standards.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers or other team members.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program or a related field.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required. (Active PE license in Nevada and Indiana or the ability to quickly obtain it).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in utilities working with substations and telecom engineering.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of fiber optic routing, splicing, and design
- Familiarity with utility permitting and regulatory compliance.
- Familiarity with IEC 61850 and SEL/GE relays is a plus.
- Strong understanding of telecom protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, SNMP, Modbus).
- Excellent communication, documentation, and project management skills.
- Experience with substation electrical systems and (example: switchgear, comm shelters, control houses.)
- Strong project/time management and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
