  • Ability to pass Federal workplace drug and alcohol testing requirements.
PREFERRED:
  • Experience working with offenders and/or experience working in a residential treatment facility.
  • Ability to type 40 words per minute.
  • Experience in word processing and database management.
  • Experience and demonstrated ability in records management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESGeneral Overview:Internship with Alternatives, Inc. will allow the Intern to grow and learn the corrections industry. Alternatives, Inc. is seeking an intern looking to learn and assist in a variety of areas within the Agency. The internship should be a mutually beneficial role for the intern to expand their educational knowledge and for the agency to flourish.Interns are expected to assist as needed and uphold confidentiality standards, based on Agency policy.Interns will receive guidance, training, and mentoring from professionals in planning and carrying out various activities, tasks, and assignments.Note: Alternatives, Inc. has paid and unpaid internships depending on availability, specific role, and department in Agency.If you have questions regarding our internships, please reach out to hr@altinc.net or call Susan at 406.294.9609, etc. 340Online Application not needed if for an unpaid role.Specific Duties:The Intern may fulfill some or all of the following duties based on variety of internship:Client Advisor (Paid Internship – When Available)
  • Perform security functions in-line with our Client Advisor position. Security functions include - Head counts, pat-downs, UAs, Breath-Alcohol testing, and more.
  • Check residents and visitors in and out of the facility.
  • Monitor residential units, halls, and help manage requests.
  • Notify treatment/case management staff of resident issues through use of incident reports.
  • Be aware of restrictions that apply to some residents (i.e., Sex Offenders, Violent Offenders, and Offenders with Temporary Restraining Orders).
  • Read the shift notes daily to keep informed of resident issues.
  • Intervene and assist in resident crisis management.
Case Management (Unpaid Internship)
  • Shadow Case Management team and sit in on groups, one-on-one meetings, and team meetings.
  • Observe intakes and orientation groups.
  • Oversee residents use of SOD office hours (as applicable to department).
  • Assist with documentation, paperwork, scanning, faxing and uploading.
  • Assist residents as needed when on the residential floor (as applicable per facility).
LAC/LCPC/LCSW (Unpaid Internship)
  • Observe Counselor and/or Staff-led group or individual sessions with residents and/or clients.
  • Observe assessments, treatment-planning sessions, groups, and other applicable tasks.
  • Observe, learn, and understand applicable principles based on position and department.
  • Help with documentation, filing, and clerical needs.
  • Attend meetings as available and requested.
Clerical/Administrative Support (Unpaid Internship)
  • Assist with clerical duties – scanning, uploading, and filing.
  • Help update online databases with current documents.
  • Help update forms as needed.
  • Answer calls and direct as appropriate.
  • Help with incoming faxes. Route appropriately.
Human Resources (Unpaid Internship)
  • Assist HR team with filing, scanning, uploading, and other clerical needs.
  • Assist HR Generalist with reference checks.
  • Assist HR Training and Development with putting together training materials, training set up, and more.
  • Help with Employment verifications.
  • Observe HR Compliance tasks including – FMLA, Unemployment, Worker’s Comp, and more.
  • Observe and help in variety of HR tasks as needed, assigned, and arise.
Other:1. The Intern is responsible for informing their supervisor of significant developments related to Alternatives, Inc. Such issues are to be reported expediently, based on his/her assessment of the importance of the issue. Examples include:
  • Any resident/client involvement in the legal system or in violation of program rules and regulations.
  • Threats of legal action.
  • Public Relations problems.
  • Resident/client complaints.
  • Fraternization issues.
  • Medical incidents/accidents.
  • Repair requirements on van or facility.
  • Schedule changes, leave requests, reporting in sick and any unauthorized departures from the office.
  • Any suspected or confirmed violation of agency rules by clients.
2. The Intern is expected to report to his/her supervisor in an expedient fashion all areas of noncompliance with program procedures, along with suggested remedial plans or interventions.3. The Intern is expected to be flexible in assuming new duties and schedule changes. He/she is to be creative in establishing or modifying program operation procedures and obtaining approval of the appropriate authority before implementation.4. Assume all other duties as assigned.
