
Design Manager – Rail Transit Signaling Program

- Design Management & Integration:
- Lead all design-related activities across CBTC systems, including wayside signaling, trainborne equipment, interlockings, and supporting systems such as communications and SCADA.
- Coordinate technical interfaces between new systems and legacy infrastructure, including power, operations centers, vehicles, and control systems.
- Ensure design work complies with contract requirements, applicable codes, and national/international standards (e.g., IEEE, AREMA, CENELEC, IEC).
- Design Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Implement a structured design review and assurance process, including the use of Interface Control Documents (ICDs), compliance matrices, and design checklists.
- Oversee document control workflows using PMIS platforms (e.g., InEight, SharePoint), ensuring version control, traceability, and timely submittals.
- Stakeholder & Vendor Coordination:
- Collaborate with the system supplier, design subconsultants, and construction team to ensure integrated and constructible design packages.
- Participate in interface working groups and facilitate timely resolution of design-related issues.
- Reporting & Risk Management:
- Provide regular progress updates, design risk assessments, and coordination metrics to the project team.
- Identify potential design risks early and implement mitigation strategies.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship:
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers and DBE subconsultants assigned to the design function.
- Promote inclusive teaming and knowledge sharing across the program team.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Systems, Civil, or Transportation Engineering or related discipline.
- 10 years of relevant engineering design experience, including rail transit signaling or CBTC projects or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate complex, multidisciplinary design efforts.
- Familiarity with CBTC system design principles and related systems integration.
- Proficiency in industry software tools such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, and document control platforms.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Experience with brownfield transit environments and managing systems interfaces.
- Knowledge of design assurance requirements under FTA, ISO 9001, or equivalent frameworks.
- Experience working on design teams that include DBE or small business partners.
- On-site presence required at the project office in Atlanta, GA.
- Occasional travel may be required for coordination with vendors or partner offices.
