Position SummaryThe Department of Communication Studies in the School of Liberal Arts at IU Indianapolis invites applications for the position of Lecturer of Public Speaking (open rank) with an appointment start date of August 1, 2024. This position is a 10-month non-tenure track appointment to teach courses in public speaking, including COMM-R110: Fundamentals of Speech Communication, a course required of all students pursuing bachelor's degrees at IU Indianapolis. This position is benefits-eligible with the opportunity for promotion.This position will also have a separate administrative appointment to serve as the course director of the COMM-R110 with these responsibilities: 1) overseeing and stewarding the standardized curriculum for R110, 2) hiring, training, and supervising approximately 20 part-time instructors and graduate students, 3) scheduling and staffing 50+ sections of the course each semester, 4) overseeing test construction and administration, 5) providing technological support including maintaining the R110 course and instructor resource sites as well as collaborating with the Speaker's Lab, 6) supporting student success initiatives, and 7) overseeing R110 Speech Night.

Basic QualificationsRequired qualifications: M.A. in Communication or related field, evidence of effective teaching of public speaking at the university level, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community and student population, administrative experience, knowledge and skill in a variety of computer and software usage and instructional media.

Additional QualificationsPreferred qualifications: strong organizational and planning skills, teaching experience at the college level, basic course direction and event management, experience and expertise in providing technological support; PhD strongly preferred.
