Job DetailsLevel: EntryJob Location: Northwest - Traverse City, MIPosition Type: Full TimeSalary Range: UndisclosedSummaryObjective: The Mechanic II is responsible for completing repairs, adjustment and preventative maintenance service and checks on company vehicles in accordance with prescribed preventative maintenance policies and procedures.Essential Duties:
  • Know and support the Mission Statement, Policy/Procedures and standards of MMR.
  • Complete preventative maintenance checks and services on all vehicles.
  • Perform diagnosis and repair on brake systems, electrical systems, powertrains and air conditioning/heating systems.
  • Responsible for accurate record keeping of all services and repairs completed.
  • Responsible for alerting the Maintenance Supervisor for any suspected or confirmed abuse of company vehicles/equipment.
  • Responsible for determining if reported failures are the result of improper operation by crew members, material defects, normal wear, or other causes.
  • Respond to road service calls as needed.
  • Responsible for vehicle maintenance during disaster deployments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skill and Competency Requirements:Knowledge, Skill and Competency Requirements:
  • Possess and maintain a valid Michigan chauffer license and maintain an acceptable driving record as defined by MMR’s insurance carrier
  • Must obtain and maintain a State of Michigan Mechanic Certification. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification is required, as well as Master Mechanic.
  • Must obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card
  • Minimum of 2 years of confirmed experience as a mechanic, or 1 year of confirmed experience after successful completion of an industry recognized trade school or college
  • Strong background in electrical, air conditioning, heating, braking, and powertrain systems, including diagnosis and repair
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, in the English language
  • Must be flexible enough to travel to various company sites
  • Must furnish own tools
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to utilize a computer with Windows operating system.
  • Must be available for emergency call-in as scheduled. Responsible for vehicle maintenance coverage with disaster deployment team and will be deployed with team at time of deployment according to the trailer on-call schedule
  • Ability to drive in accordance with MMR standards. Pass all driver examinations, both written an oral road tests
  • Adequate knowledge of EMS vehicles, and related vehicle on-board equipment
  • Strong knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in the repair and maintenance of a variety of automotive and mechanical equipment: operating principles of gasoline and diesel engines and of mechanical repair of vehicles ranging from passenger cars to the 1 ton category
  • Locating, correcting, and adjusting defects in complex automotive and mechanical equipment; performing skilled work in repairing, overhauling, and maintaining gas and diesel powered automotive equipment; interpreting and working from guidelines, technical manuals, and diagrams; using and caring for tools and equipment used in automotive and mechanical repair work; maintaining detailed and routine records
  • Must complete initial and annual Bloodborne Pathogens Training
  • Must be at least 18 years old
Physical Factors: Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds alone. Has visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye, with corrective lenses and a field of vision in the horizontal meridian not less than a total 140 degrees; ability to distinguish traffic colors (red, green, amber); hearing should be adequate in the better ear for conversational tones without the use of hearing aids. Due to the unpredictability of this type of organization, it is not always possible to guarantee meal and/or break periods. Therefore, the person must have no physical condition that would prohibit him/her from working 12 hours without a break, and/or an uninterrupted meal period. Meet minimum requirements of MMR post-employment physical examination, physical ability test and drug screen.Working Conditions: Most work is done in a typical shop setting, but with daily exposure to all other department areas. Inside a majority of the time; however, may include outside work on occasion.
