Internship Term: Summer 2026 (May – August)Big West Oil's Internship program is a structured summer internship opportunity for current full-time university students. You will gain hands-on experience in your area of study and receive directed mentorship while under the guidance of seasoned professionals. This role offers the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world tasks, helping you develop a strong foundation for your professional future.Position Summary:Do you have a passion for ensuring safety in a high-stakes industrial environment? The Safety/Industrial Hygiene internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of an active refinery. You will work directly with our Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team, contributing to the well-being of our employees and the operational integrity of our facility. This intern will be placed in one of the following groups:
- Occupational Safety & Health- Develops and manages programs and procedures that drive safety and promote a safety-first culture.
- Industrial Hygiene- Develops and manages programs and procedures that drive safety and promote a safety-first culture.
- Conduct field audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Assist in the development and delivery of safety training materials for new employees and contractors.
- Support the investigation of safety incidents and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Contribute to the management of industrial hygiene programs, including air quality monitoring and noise exposure assessments.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and collaborate with various departments to promote a strong safety culture.
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited four-year university, pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (Junior or Senior standing preferred, all others welcome).
- Strong interest in industrial safety and a proactive approach to hazard identification.
- Excellent observational and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
