MIT-Lincoln Laboratory’s Fabrication Engineering Group (Group 72) provides materials management, part fabrication, and electronic assembly services to program teams that develop a wide range of military and aerospace devices for US government sponsors. The group is involved from the initial design through the manufacture, assembly, integration and environmental test of these devices.

Job Description:

The Mechanical Inspector A working with minimal supervision, quality assurance procedures or verbal instructions will assist in the establishment and implementation of quality control within one or more projects encompassing development, fabrication and assembly. The Mechanical Inspector A is required to do any or all Inspector B (Mechanical) functions and in addition to do the following: Inspect a variety of mechanical components of greater complexity to assure compliance to specification. Will assist in the development of quality documentation and configuration control. Work requires interpretation and utilization of Mission Assurance Level 1 procedures, engineering drawings, electrical/mechanical schematics, test procedures, sketches, written and verbal instructions. The Inspector is required to do the following: unpack incoming goods; inspect goods for quality and quantity; repackage goods; pack goods away in storage bins and keep work areas clean; receive issue and inventory goods; check documentation for proper description of items and keep stock in good condition. Perform internal inventory audits, enter, monitor and maintain product shelf life expiration using existing spreadsheet or equivalent. Light to moderate lifting with a maximum of 50lbs. May be required to conduct inspections using Portable Coordinate Measuring Machines capturing adequate data for analysis. The MIA will modify or design fixtures and tooling to facilitate inspection operations. Assist lower classification personnel.


Graduation from a two-year day technical school or its equivalent and five (5) year’s applicable experience is required. The Mechanical Inspector A must have the experience to perform all types of inspection operations on mechanical hardware and components. Assists with internal review of Group 72 Inspection department in preparation for audits and/or assessments.
