Inc. (Suncor USA) is an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Suncor Energy Inc., a leading integrated energy company based in Calgary, Canada, publicly traded on the NYSE and TSX under stock symbol SU. Suncor USA owns and operates the Commerce City refinery, the only petroleum refinery in Colorado and one of the largest in the Rocky Mountain region. The U.S. downstream business also includes a crude oil pipeline business and a retail business.Minimum Requirements:Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law schoolLicensed to practice law in the State of Colorado in good standing5 to 15 years practicing law with experience in environmental or regulatory work (5 years of law firm/private practice experience preferred)Previous experience with the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water ActExcellent written work product and research, analytical and oral advocacy skillsHigh emotional intelligence with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teamsAgile and creative thinker with ability to synthesize a wide range of principles, issues, needs and outcomesAbility to learn new or emerging areas of the lawValues diversity and inclusionDemonstrated community involvement and diversity of outside interestsMust be legally authorized to work in the USA for the duration of your employmentResponsibilities:Provide legal advice and support for our U.S. businesses and Environmental, Health, & Safety team covering a broad range of environmental, safety, and regulatory issuesWork with state and federal regulatory agencies and support regulatory rulemakings and legislative policy developmentManage litigation and oversee outside counselOffer legal expertise to emergency response situations and incident investigationsDevelop expertise and provide support for employment, labor, privacy, and other mattersProactively identify and manage areas of legal risk, including bringing expertise to bear in supporting commercial transactions, real property issues, construction projects, and business processesFind practical solutions while balancing legal, commercial, operational, and other parametersLocation and other Key Details:You will work out of our Refinery Business Center building (LEED Silver), located in Commerce City, CO which is adjacent to DenverHours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needsIn alignment with Suncor’s value of Safety Above All Else, we conduct pre-employment drug testing, employment verification, education verification, background checks, and other pre-employment assessments as a condition of employmentSalary and Compensation Details:Annual Compensation Range: $190,000 to $240,000: salary and an annual incentive (bonus) programOur business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of workAn additional equity component is provided in the form of Restricted Share Units (RSUs) (value is not included in the above Annual Compensation Range)Competitive and flexible employee benefits package that can be adjusted to suit the changing needs of your life, including: 3 medical options (including HSA and FSA options), 2 dental options, vision coverage, and an Employee Assistance PlanGreat work/life balance, including a generous vacation program of 3 to 4 weeks (based on credited prior experience) as well as 12 additional personal paid time off days (1 each month)Excellent 401(k) plan with up to a 6% vested match, pre-tax, Roth, and post-tax options, and an automatic 1.5% profit sharing contributionSuncor-funded Cash Balance defined benefit pension plan (vests in 3 years)Why Suncor?Suncor's operations include oil sands development, production and upgrading; offshore oil and gas; petroleum refining in Canada and the U.S.; and the company's Petro-Canada retail and wholesale distribution networks (including Canada's Electric Highway™, a coast-to-coast network of fast-charging electric vehicle stations).
