The California Post will be that voice. California, here we come!_The California Post is seeking a **Specialist Editor** to lead coverage across news features, technology, and our LA Next franchise. Reporting to the News Editor, the Specialist Editor will manage a team of reporters and editors focused on delivering ambitious, high-impact California based journalism that blends breaking exclusives with agenda setting enterprise and investigative stories.The ideal candidate will be a newsroom leader who thrives on collaboration, has strong editing instincts across a wide range of subjects, and also brings an understanding of the important west coast tech industries and players, from AI to defence. This role requires a proven ability to shape stories with national reach, guide reporters through long-form and investigative projects, and balance the demands of daily news with enterprise ambitions.**Responsibilities:**+ Oversee reporters and editors covering tech, news features, and LA Next, ensuring coverage is sharp, ambitious, and agenda-setting.+ Edit and shape stories ranging from quick-turn features to long-form investigative projects, providing rigorous feedback and guidance.+ Partner closely with reporters to develop enterprise story ideas, refine pitches, and bring ambitious reporting to publication.+ Work with the LA Next Lead to oversee the franchise's editorial direction, ensuring reporting and on-camera content align with the California Post's voice and brand.+ Guide the tech team in producing both breaking and investigative coverage, leveraging deep knowledge of the industry to push stories further.+ Collaborate across desks (politics, audience development, photo, design) to package stories in ways that maximize impact across digital, print, and multimedia.+ Ensure stories are accurate, timely, and presented with compelling context, data, and visuals.+ Provide mentorship and coaching to direct reports, fostering strong storytelling instincts and enterprise reporting skills.+ Contribute to newsroom strategy discussions, helping to identify opportunities for exclusives and original features that distinguish the California Post.+ Step in as a newsroom leader when required, helping to set priorities and keep coverage competitive.**Requirements** **:**+ At least 7-10 years of newsroom experience, including editing features, enterprise, or investigative work.+ Proven leadership skills with experience managing reporters and shaping ambitious, long-form stories.+ Strong background in technology reporting or editing, with established knowledge of the industry's key players, trends, and dynamics.+ Track record of editing stories that break through the noise and set the agenda.+ Excellent news judgment, with the ability to balance quick-turn coverage with long-lead enterprise projects.+ Strong editing, writing, and storytelling skills, with a keen eye for structure, clarity, and impact.+ Familiarity with digital platforms, SEO, analytics, and multimedia storytelling.+ Experience working collaboratively across departments and with audience, photo, and design teams.+ Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, competitive newsroom, with flexibility to work nights or weekends as needed.+ Commitment to ethical journalism and a sharp understanding of legal considerations in investigative reporting.**_Note: This role will be expected to work on-site in our Los Angeles office._**At The New York Post we recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company.
