Job DescriptionWork ArrangementThis role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.The RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior System Safety Engineer to lead safety analysis and risk mitigation efforts for braking systems within our chassis system engineering and system safety team. This role is critical to ensuring the safe operation of advanced braking technologies across a range of vehicle platforms, including conventional, hybrid, and electric architectures.What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)Lead system safety activities for braking systems in accordance with ISO 26262 and other relevant safety standardsDevelop and maintain safety concepts, hazard analysis, and risk assessments (HARA) and System safety work productsCollaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, software, controls, and validation to ensure safety goals are met with consistent and sufficient safety strategy implementationEstablish safety requirements traceability to design and validation activities,
partnering with engineering teams though the product development life cycleSupport safety case development and documentation for internal and external stakeholders to facilitate timely delivery of safety critical system contentEnsure functional reliability, regulatory compliance, necessary fault coverage, diagnostics, and functional availability for new braking systemsServe as the primary point of contact for System Safety status and issue resolution related to braking systems, providing regular updates and strategic insights and system safety process guidance to program teams and leadershipLead and participate in design reviews, FMEA sessions, and safety auditsMentor and develop system safety engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of safety processesMentor & develop internal and external organizational partners (including
Global teams) on safety critical system and process-specific knowledgeStay abreast of new technology and safety analysis techniquesRelocationThis job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidateYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related fieldMinimum 7 years of experience in automotive system safety engineering, with a focus on braking or chassis systems or related complex systemsDeep understanding of ISO 26262 and functional safety lifecycleGood understanding of Embedded controls and electronicsDepth and experience in Vehicle DynamicsExperience with safety analysis tools (e.g., Medini, APIS IQ-FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis)Strong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and documentation abilitiesAbility to travel up to 10% of the time, domesticThis position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report reviewPreferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Computer Science, or related fieldExperience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE)Prior experience working with Vehicle dynamics, ADAS, or autonomous vehicle systemsProfessional certifications in functional safety (e.g., TÜV Functional Safety Engineer)SponsorshipGM DOES NOT PROVIDE IMMIGRATION-RELATED SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS ROLE.
