Nature of WorkCoconino County Education Service Agency (CCESA) is seeking a LCSW/LMSW or Certified School Psychologist to be a full-time employee with the CCESA to provide county schools with mental health services. This position includes project management for grant work. The mental health specialist will also assist the Project Lead in providing professional development and coaching to school staff. This position will provide a continuum of supports to meet student mental health needs, including evidence-based prevention practices and trauma-informed mental health care. The mental health specialist will expand Social Emotional Learning programs that promote healthy development.
This is a Limited Appointment position with the end date June 30, 2026Typical Duties(Illustrative Only)
  • Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team (including school staff and outside provides) to assess and inform appropriate interventions/treatment.
  • Conducts psycho-educational interviews and prepares case; documents case records and makes relevant reports.
  • Collects monthly statistics for reporting purposes.
  • Assists schools with students who pose a concern to the safety and security of the facility secondary to a mental illness.
  • Educates students and educators on the use of implementing coping techniques
  • Interfaces with a wide range of community organizations including families and school personnel for referrals for Mental Health.
  • Provides information regarding the availability of social and mental health services.
  • Provides professional development to schools regarding signs, symptoms and safety when working with students with a mental illness.
  • Participates in conferences with school staff members and parents relative to test findings and their interpretation
  • Communicates with families and appropriate school personnel involving students with mental health needs.
  • Provides mental health counseling to students and county educators in individual or group settings in based on treatment plan goals
  • Implements related service counseling per eligible special education students' Individualized Education Plans
  • Evaluates students to determine need for counseling services through the use of case history, interview, and observation;
  • Develops treatment plans for targeted behavior change;
  • Participates in conferences with school staff members and parents relative to findings and their interpretation.
  • Attendance at MET/I.E.P. conferences and make appropriate recommendations;
  • Complies with all IDEA regulations and Arizona Revised Statutes ยงยง 15-765-767
  • Responsible for project management and grant reporting
  • Assists team leaders to conduct research and oversee evaluation activities.
Minimum QualificationsMaster's degree in social work, psychology, psychiatry, counseling or closely related field AND/OR at least two years of post master's degree experience in a mental health program providing counseling and crisis intervention to adults under clinical supervision. Must be a licensed Clinical Social Worker, Counselor, or Clinical Psychologist in the State of Arizona.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT(S):Must obtain an Arizona's Driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment.Must obtain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.This position is exempt from overtime.Note: Individuals in exempt classifications as part time employees may be classified as non-exempt per FLSA law regarding minimum weekly salary requirements.This position is safety sensitive.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of:
  • The most current edition of DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) diagnoses.
  • School system and referrals for treatment.
Skill in:
  • Working with a broad range of students and educators' in an outpatient setting or school environment
  • Working with a multidisciplinary team in a setting that requires awareness of surroundings
  • Assessment and evaluations of mental health clients
  • Maintaining solid boundaries with clients
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills with students, adults, counselors, psychiatric nurse practitioner and/or physicians
  • Educating staff and students on wellness, mental health and student treatment plans.

  • Collect data and generate reports
  • Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate
