- Leading and formulating new product development projects.
- Formulating of existing products for improvements.
- Aid in resolving technical challenges associated with scaling-up, maintaining quality, and addressing manufacturing issues related to formulas.
- Test and assess developed products, compile Safety Data Sheet (SDS), Product Data Sheets (PDS), and unsure adherence to regulatory compliance standards.
- Deliver technical support to key stakeholder from sourcing, technical, operation and marketing for a variety of cross-functional activities.
- Capability to concurrently manage 2-3 R&D projects, involving collaboration with other departments.
- Proficiency in organizing and interpreting data.
- Prepare and deliver technical reports and training presentations as needed.
- Capable of mentoring new chemists for their growth and success and, fostering effective collaboration with colleagues.
- Collaborate within R&D team, Analytical, Application, Marketing, and Color teams.
- Lead projects.
- Always adhere to company safety standards; maintain safe operating procedures through a complete understanding of safety rules and lab procedures.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Design and execute experiments, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
- Manage the timely completion of projects.
- Communicate lab results concisely via presentation, email and/or lab report.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
- Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
- 7+ years of hands-on lab experience in the coating industry.
- 5+ years of experience in the paint and coating product development environment.
- Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis
- Valid Driver's License
- M.S or PhD degree in Chemistry, Polymers Science, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or another related field.
- Experienced and knowledgeable in 2-k Polyurethane, and waterborne coating systems.
- Understanding of reactive chemistries including epoxies and urethanes.
- In depth understanding of coating formulation and how it relates to coating requirements.
- Experience working in the automotive vehicle refinish industry.
- Six sigma certifications beneficial (green or black belt preferred).
- Experience in Design for Six Sigma (DFSS).
