Position SummaryAt Stony Brook Medicine, our Social Workers and Social Work Supervisors are valuable members of our team, who provide empathic care to our patients, their families and visitors, with the highest degree of integrity and respect. Social Workers apply the principles and practices of their profession to provide integrated social casework, including direct counseling, therapy, advocacy, and other services to individuals, families and groups in a variety of settings. Social Workers plan, implement, coordinate and document treatment for individuals diagnosed with: mental illness and serious emotional disturbance; mental retardation and developmental disabilities; work-related illnesses or injuries; chemical addiction; or perpetrators or victims of neglect, abuse, or crime who need therapeutic intervention, habilitation, training, supervision and re-socialization, or confinement. Social Worker Supervisors oversee social work staff, offer supervision and assist with high risk cases.Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, knowledge and understanding of patient care, psychiatric patient care and effectively respond to changing patient needs by making decisions based on ethical principles and adhering to our high standard of excellence. Demonstrates ability to manage multiple staff and all tasks and responsibilities associated with supervisory/ management role.Duties of a Social Work Supervisor may include the following but are not limited to:Direct and indirect supervision of Psychiatric Social Work Staff including CPEP/ Mobile Crisis/ Inpatient and Float Staff and Addiction Specialists.Comfortable having difficult conversations with staff, providing constructive feedback, and addressing performance issues to foster a positive and productive work environment.Oversight of clinical intervention including Mental Health and Substance Abuse DisorderChart review and oversight of documentation complianceTeam discussion/roundsDischarge planning oversightPatient/Family AssessmentsOutside agency liaisonInsurance and hospital contacts regarding admissionsCollaboration with integrated servicesCoordination with Care Management and Care Management LeadershipProcess improvement and quality improvementProject Management for psych/ psych social work initiativesDemonstrates understanding of SBIRT and substance abuse issuesDemonstrates ability to be trained in child psychiatry for purposes of coverage as needed.Attendance and leadership of Behavioral Health meetingsAttendance and active involvement in policy and form creationKnowledge of OMH, OPWDD, DSS, CPS and community providersQualifications:Required Qualifications:· Licensed Master’s in Social Work (LMSW).· At least five years’ post Master’s Social Work experience in Hospital Psychiatric Health Care.· At least 3 years of supervisory experience including but not limited to Social Workers, Counselors, Social Work Interns, clinical support team or paraprofessionals.· Demonstrates understanding of discharge planning and Long Length of stay barriers and systems.· Demonstrates the ability to create and implement policy.· Demonstrates ability for project management and action planning.Preferred Qualifications:· LCSW· Previous professional supervisory experience.· Experience in pediatric and adolescent psychiatric care.· Experience in psychiatric Emergency Room.Special Notes: Resume/CV should be included with the online application.Posting Overview: This position will remain posted until filled or for a maximum of 90 days. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:Location pay for UUP full-time positions ($4000)Your total compensation goes beyond the number in your paycheck.
