
Technical Resource Manager

Key Responsibilities
Maintain a comprehensive resource forecast for all technical disciplines (e.g., controls, mechanical, software, electrical, etc.).
Match skillsets to project needs, balancing availability, project priority, and personnel development.
Identify overallocations and resource shortages, and work with department leads to adjust assignments.
Support project planning by contributing to capacity assessments during intake and kickoff stages.
Partner with project managers to track progress against resource commitments and mitigate risk due to skill shortages or turnover.
Assist with recovery planning for delayed or at-risk projects by reshuffling or augmenting technical staff.
Generate weekly and monthly reports on resource utilization, availability, backlog, and forecasted demand.
Provide executive summaries for leadership outlining trends, constraints, and strategic staffing needs.
Maintain up-to-date dashboards and visualizations using tools such as MS Project, Power BI, or other PMIS platforms.
Collaborate with engineering and department managers to understand staff strengths, weaknesses, and growth plans.
Help guide mentorship or cross-training efforts to diversify skill coverage and increase deployment flexibility.
Participate in or lead workforce planning meetings and talent pipeline initiatives.
Standardize resource request and assignment procedures across the PMO.
Own and refine tools for capacity planning and resource allocation.
Promote best practices for time tracking and role-based assignment structures.Additional InformationQualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, Project Management, or related field required.
5+ years of experience in technical project environments; 2+ years in resource management, PMO, or leadership capacity.
Familiarity with automation, engineering services, or technical integration projects are strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of project lifecycles and how technical resources contribute at each stage.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in resource management tools (e.g., Primavera, MS Project, Smartsheet, Planview).
Effective communicator with ability to influence without direct authority.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
Preferred Qualifications
PMP, PMI-RMP, or similar project management certification.
Experience in Agile, hybrid, or waterfall methodologies.
