
Medical Assistant

- Greet patients and express sensitivity to patient needs and conditions.
- Assess and document general condition of patients, including recording chief complaints, vital signs, weight, medications, and social history.
- Record services and diagnoses accurately for completion of encounter forms, requisitions, consent forms, and advance beneficiary notices.
- Assist providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments according to established protocols.
- Independently perform ancillary services, including venipuncture and x-rays, per protocols.
- Maintain medical records, including preparation of charts and filing of correspondence and test results.
- Coordinate care through messaging patient telephone calls, scheduling appointments, and communicating prescription refills according to established protocols.
- Use EMR and other computer applications to accomplish tasks according to policies and procedures.
- Track ordered or pending tests, procedures, and referrals according to protocol.
- Administer medication orally and via intra-muscular injection as directed by physician order.
- Determine eligibility and obtain authorization for services.
- Schedule tests and appointments for referred services and track referrals made for services.
- Promote patient wellness by providing patient education as directed by the provider.
- Utilize advanced clinical knowledge or experience to resolve patient questions and meet patient needs.
- Participate in quality initiatives and safety functions.
- Assist in identifying and ordering needed supplies.
- Remain informed and compliant with current policies and procedures.
- Maintain exemplary patient satisfaction and participate as an engaged team member.
- Exercise independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.
- Work directly with patients and/or customers, as well as with internal/external customers and other healthcare professionals and staff.
- Work frequently with individuals at director level or above.
- Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated patient care skills.
- Demonstrated PC skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner.
- Understanding of healthcare delivery processes in the medical office.
- Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Educational Program or one year of related experience within the last five years.
- High School Diploma or GED.
