- Responsible for leading the commissioning and testing of electrical equipment in substations, including protection relays, RTUs, breakers, and transformers.
- Conduct functional testing of relays, RTUs, and other protection equipment to verify proper operation and integration into the system.
- Guide, mentor and lead a team of 2-5 Substation Electrical Testing and Commissioning Technicians by providing guidance, training, and technical support throughout the project.
- Oversee the planning and execution of commissioning activities, including scheduling, resource allocation, and coordination with other departments.
- Review project electrical drawings and relay settings to ensure all components are ready for commissioning.
- Proactively resolve issues related to insufficient equipment and site materials to avoid delays and ensure smooth project execution.
- Perform visual inspections and equipment checkouts, including the necessary electrical tests, to confirm equipment is installed and functioning correctly.
- Maintain a safety-first mindset and ensure all safety protocols are followed. Execute pre-energization safety checks, including testing of electrical protective devices, to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Travel to project sites as needed, with some trips lasting several weeks. High travel periods are planned in advance.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- 2-year Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field (Preferred).
- 5 years of experience in Testing and Commissioning Electrical power systems and controls.
- Demonstrated advanced technical proficiency and strong leadership capabilities in both field and office settings
- Expertise in reading and interpreting electrical single-line diagrams, three-line drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, network diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Experience testing and commissioning protection equipment and devices (e.g., protective relays, RTUs, breakers, transformers).
- Highly proficient in diagnosing and resolving issues with electrical systems and controls during and after energization.
- Thorough understanding of electrical hazards (shock, arc flash) and a commitment to industry-standard safety practices.
- Extensive travel is required, with some trips lasting several weeks. $169 perdiem will be provided. Travel schedules are planned in advance, with periods of high travel demand expected.
- Candidates must be willing to travel throughout the Southeast United States 80%-100% of the time.
