- Develop molecular methods for targeted sequencing of pathogens from wastewater with an initial focus on respiratory viruses.
- Develop protocols for metagenomic sequencing of wastewater.
- Focus on optimizing nucleic acid extraction methodology, sequencing library construction, and sequencing platform to obtain high-quality pathogen variant data.
- Working closely with computational biologists, interpret findings in the context of pathogen evolution, public health, and therapeutics development.
- Communicate significance of findings to partners and stakeholders in academia, government, and industry.
- Ph.D. degree (or equivalent industry experience) in genomics, molecular biology, virology, microbiome, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated proficiency in pathogen-targeted sequencing library construction and analysis from complex samples.
- Experience with viral genome enrichment and/or identification from complex microbial communities.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organization and time management skills. Enthusiasm for participating in the growing field of wastewater-based epidemiology.
- Familiarity with R, Python or SQL and experience processing and analyzing complex sequencing data.
- Excellent written and oral communication as demonstrated through publications and presentations.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, within reason, to support the success of the overall project.
