The EMS Assistant Chief of Operations is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of field operations, including 911 response, Interfacility transport, event medicine, and special teams within the EMS department and the county wide EMS system of care. The position plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery EMS services and demands a proactive approach to managing emergency response, resource allocation, personnel management, and operational strategy to while maintaining safe, high-quality care to the community.The Assistant Chief collaborates with and supports the entire departmental and county-wide public safety chain of command, in a manner that seamlessly promotes teamwork and exceptional outcomes. The Assistant Chief does respond to individual emergency medical situations and supports mass casualty response, as well as, disaster or crisis management within the incident command framework, and is subject to recall from home or extended hours of operation as needed.The EMS Assistant Chief will model a safety-first culture, focused on delivering best-in-class patient care and customer service as determined by the policies, procedures, and standards of performance of Williamson Health, in accordance with State regulations and accepted standards of care. The Assistant Chief will promote a supportive and encouraging work environment of continuous improvement and professional growth for every team member. The Assistant Chief must be able to provide, model, teach, guide, delegate, and manage their leadership responsibilities and direct patient care at the expert level for situations and incidents of all types while maintaining a high level of professionalism.Position Requirements:
Formal Education / Training:
Tennessee Licensed Critical Care Paramedic
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
BLS certification at time of employment
ACLS and PALS certifications within six months of employment
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) within six months of employment
Valid driver's license in the state of residency; must be insurable
Operations training preferredWorkplace Experience:
At least five years of experience in an EMS system senior management position
Proven experience leading, developing, and delivering EMS OperationsEquipment and Skills Training:
Employees will participate in orientation and on-going education and in-service training for all types of learning; to include adult learning, clinical care, critical thinking, customer service, leadership, management, research, and resources used to effectively and efficiently accomplish each in the EMS environment. Employees are required to complete annual education and in-service training for all types of medical, trauma and behavioral emergencies and equipment used in all assessment, treatment and transportation of patients.Physical Environment:
Potentially high-risk environment. Duties are performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, disaster and mass casualty incidents. Patients may present with any of an unlimited number of diseases, illness, injuries, personalities and emotional states. Environment includes operations of, and performing work functions within emergency vehicles, including ambulances. Prolonged exposure to temperature extremes may also be encountered.Physical Effort:
Must be able to utilize devices for patient movement, including all functions of ambulance stretcher, with 250-pound weight, with partner. Must be able to walk, crawl, stand, sit, climb, stoop, run and kneel to access patients. Must be able to carry patients and equipment over varying distances, terrain and up or down stairs. Must be able to carry the EKG monitor and jump bag unassisted.Key Results:
Leads and manages field operations, officers, and personnel, including reviewing overall performance, complaints and associated correspondence.
Maintains and executes an annual personal development plan ensuring minimum organizational expectations are met as well as initiatives that promote continuous work-related growth and improvement.
Direct and coordinate the day-to-day operations of EMS services, including emergency response, patient care, and transport.
Oversee the allocation and deployment of resources such as staff, equipment, and vehicles to ensure operational readiness, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Lead and manage operational personnel, in a manner that promotes engagement, professional growth, safety and high-quality outcomes.
Ensures implementation and adherence to operational policies, procedures and standards of care, including the provision of on-going feedback and annual evaluations.
Coordinates with other public safety organizations and healthcare facilities to ensure the cohesive and high-quality provision of service.
Continuously assess and improve operational readiness and service delivery.
Lead, manage, and support critical incidents as well as routine or planned field operations, ensuring safe, effective and high-quality service delivery.
Analyze operational data to inform decision-making and key stake holders to continuously improve system wide outcomes.
Lead and mentor operational staff, fostering a positive, collaborative, efficient and engaging work environment.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and safety by identifying and implementing best practices in EMS Operations
