- Understands and applies Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) program guidelines to all regulatory signs and roadway markings.
- Reads and interprets blueprints to remove, install, and maintain City signs, signposts, and other traffic control devices as needed; removes damaged or old signs and signposts; operates equipment associated with this work such as post drivers, post pullers, and/or various hand tools.
- Upon public property, lays out pavement stripes; paints and maintains lane lines, center lines, crosswalks, turn arrows, stop bars railroad crossings, parking stalls, curbs, and other pavement markings; operates equipment associated with this work such as thermoplastic applicators, torches, and various power tools
- Assists with designs and produces standardized and specialized signs using modern sign-making equipment and digital technology.
- Assists with inspection of road markings and signs on final project close out (walk-through) before asset is turned over to the city to take ownership and perform maintenance.
- Observes staff performance and provides feedback to foreman.
- Assists with staff training on MUTCD program guidelines for all regulator signs and roadway markings.
- Assists with training employees within the signs/markings division in the formatting and fabrication of signs and roadway markings.
- Performs computer aided graphics and art design work; makes decisions on letter size, spacing, length/width of sign, size of sign, and amount of sheeting to be used.
- Maintains and cleans signs, marking, tools, and equipment.
- Performs job site flagging to control traffic through job sites and/or vehicle accidents such as placing and retrieving traffic cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices while working within public rights of way.
- Operates a variety of light and/or medium construction and/or maintenance equipment.
- Operates, maintains, and repairs a variety of hand and/or power tools, which include paint guns, rollers, saws, paint stripers, blowers, chain saws, jack hammers, and/or a variety of other equipment.
- Documents usage of materials installed, equipment operations, miles driven, fuel and oil used, and/or other job-related information.
- Monitors inventory and supply levels; recommends replenishment of materials.

- Respond to emergencies or periods of high demand outside of regular working hours.
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.

- Safe and efficient operation of minor equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures.
- Reading and interpreting maps, technical specifications and operations manuals for equipment.
- Following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
- Operating a personal computer, graphic computer systems specializing in regulatory traffic signs.
- Operate Graphtec plotter with Flexi software or equivalent software.
- Properly install and maintain regulatory signs and pavement markings.
- Performs a variety of specialized maintenance work in assigned area of responsibility.
- Exercise initiative and independent judgment.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the general public.
- Complete NIMS IS-100 and IS-700 training.
- Obtain CDL Class B with all appropriate endorsements.
- Obtain ATTSA Traffic Control Flagger Certification.
- Obtain Signs and Pavement Markings Technician Level II
