- A “float nurse” works a variety of on-call assignments for us in a specified region. Float nurses are guaranteed a minimum of 6 hours a day that they have allotted as their “float days”.
- Possible assignments:
- 1:1 care with medically fragile pediatric patients
- Clinical procedures include:
- Diabetic management
- G Tube feedings
- Seizure precautions
- Med Pass
- Trach/Vent care
- Health Office - general triage/emergency support for general student population
- Specialty: Pediatrics in School Health
- Standard Shift: 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM (with flexible scheduling!) Monday through Friday - 6 hours/day guaranteed, position will require driving around San Francisco and Marin County, keeping the days you have agreed to open
- Job Type: Full-time or Part-time available
- Float Nurses must have at least 2 days a week where they can block off for a day shift.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel around SF, Peninsula, Marin County, and Sonoma County
- Additional school bus or transportation might be required for certain assignments, you are expected to be comfortable with this possibility
- Strong communication skills - we will communicate initial assignment details via text message. You must confirm receipt and acceptance ASAP. Ideally, we reach out as much in advance about assignments, but you are also expected to be ready for assignments as late as the night before or the morning of your float dates.
- New grads or those inexperienced in school nursing are able to take on this role - please let us know if you may need to shadow any particular areas of care before taking it on autonomously
- Assignment availability varies depending on the needs of the district - if you are assigned a case that is less than 6 hours, you will still get paid 6 hours
- You must treat the dates you agreed to float as regular work shifts, which means, if you decide to not take it, we will note it as an "absence". You must also follow the standard procedure for taking time off, which is letting us know at least 2 weeks in advance for time off, unless in the case of an emergency or illness.
- You may apply PTO/Sick leave for time off
- If all districts within the region you work are on holiday/break. You will also be on the same schedule - you will not be paid for holidays or breaks unless you are working a shift
- Float Nursing can only be done in the regular school year - float nurses can transition to a regular assignment or per diem in the Summer as prefer
- This position is on an as needed basis. We will give you at least a week’s length of notice if a floater is no longer needed.
