Job Objectives: Assist the Fleet Supervisor and any other mechanics in maintaining the district fleet, keeps school buses in good working order, maintains the garage so that it provides a clean and safe work environment, and provides bus drivers with information to facilitate the preservation of the school buses and related equipment.Note: Substitute driving duties may be assigned (see bus driver job description for additional information).Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma. Post-secondary training or equivalent work experience in commercial vehicle maintenance procedures is required.Meets all mandated health requirementsDocumentation of a clear criminal record.Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.Ability to interpret and comply with safety regulations and environmental laws.Bookkeeping skill and the ability to compute mathematical data accurately.Holds or is qualified to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a proper endorsement to drive students. Meets all prerequisite and ongoing qualifications to be covered by the district’s insurance carrier.Meets all bus driver minimum qualifications when physically qualified.Available to respond to service emergencies.Responsibilities and Essential Functions:The following duties are representative of performance expectations. The employee who occupies this position is expected to assume any/all duties assigned by the mechanic or fleet supervisor, the director of secondary services, and by the Superintendent.Operates school buses for purposes of testing maintenance work done to buses; has ability to get on a school bus and drive it safely.Perform necessary maintenance on school buses; has the ability to climb under a school bus and reach under the hood of a school bus.Acts as a substitute school bus driver as required.Maintain the school bus garage in clean, safe and efficient working order.Maintain accurate written records of service performed on school buses.Interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with school bus drivers regarding methods to extend the usefulness of school buses and their related parts and equipment.Provide gasoline, oil, and lubrication service for all buses and fleet vehicles and keep necessary paperwork associated with such services.Prepare written reports to school officials as needed.Make service calls in case of an inoperable bus.Qualifications:1.
