
Technical Lead EMC Engineer

- Reviews new project proposals and provides guidance to resolve any issues
- Demonstrates good knowledge of all Garmin products and their respective certification and testing requirements across multiple platforms
- Creates test programs to suit multiple certification programs
- Regularly demonstrates creativity and ingenuity to develop reliable solutions to complex problems
- Represents Garmin among industry partners, peer groups and regulatory agencies (FAA/EASA/RTCA/GAMA/OEM/Audits/FCC/IEEE)
- Provides guidance and mentoring to less experienced EMC Engineers (EMC Engineer 1 & 2, Senior EMC Engineer)
- Lead and explain EMC planning for system architectures consisting of multiple transmitter modules
- Offer peer EMC assessments in areas of expertise
- Effectively represent Garmin among industry partners, peer groups, and regulatory agencies
- Research, conduct feasibility studies, and provide business-based recommendations to leadership on EMC approval requirements for many countries
- Provide significant contributions to compliance reviews across multiple product types
- Demonstrate broad understanding of Garmin's business model, including operations, production, sales and marketing
- Initiate new procedures when warranted
- Define general approaches and specific solutions to compliance problems while considering state-of-the-art methods
- Bachelor's Degree AND a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- Thorough knowledge of HIRF and Lightning (both direct and indirect)
- Demonstrates thorough understanding of certification requirements for Part 23, 25, 27, and 29
- Be able to function as a Designated Engineering Representative (DER) or Unit Member (UM) in HIRF and Lightning
- Demonstrates proficiency using Microsoft Word & Excel
- Demonstrated project management and/or project engineering experience
- Must be detail-oriented and work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
- Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality
- Excellent time management skills and ability to generate and support pragmatic solutions that meet Garmin’s market launch requirements, while maintaining high quality standards
- iNARTE certification in EMC and/or Product Safety
- Past participation on a standards-writing committee
- Experience reviewing EMC and safety design aspects for circuit design and PCB layout
- Knowledge of ISO9001, ISO17025, AS9100, IATF6949
