We are looking for a Senior HVAC Design Engineer with specialized expertise in Science & Technology and/or Healthcare projects to sit in either our Newark office or in NYC.This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to complex, high-performance facilities while mentoring junior engineers and shaping project outcomes.Some of your responsibilities include the following:
  • Lead HVAC system design for large-scale projects across Science & Technology, Healthcare, Academic, and Commercial sectors.
  • Establish system design criteria and perform engineering calculations (e.g., load, airflow, pressure drop).
  • Oversee the preparation of design documentation including drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules.
  • Coordinate and supervise the technical work of design teams, ensuring adherence to quality and performance standards.
  • Conduct field investigations and site assessments as necessary during design and construction phases.
  • Interface with clients, architects, contractors, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.
  • Lead QA/QC reviews of HVAC deliverables.
  • Utilize and provide direction for BIM/Revit modeling and documentation processes.
Essential Skills & Requirements:
  • 10 + years of experience designing HVAC systems in high performance facilities.
  • P.E. Preferred
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding of HVAC system types, central plant design, air handling units, hydronic systems, and controls.
  • Proficiency in relevant engineering software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, Trane Trace, or HAP).
  • Demonstrated experience leading HVAC design teams and coordinating interdisciplinary projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, ASHRAE standards, and energy codes.
  • Commitment to sustainable design; LEED accreditation preferred.

The range is dependent on your years of experience, FE/PE licensure, skill sets and education and is negotiable.
