Applies medical nursing knowledge attained through hands-on experience or formal education to assist veterinarians in a clinical setting, providing support for various animal health care needs. Prepares treatment room for examination of animals and holds or restrains animals during physical examination or treatment. Administers injections, performs venipunctures, applies wound dressings, routine laboratory tests, and takes vital signs of animal, under general supervision. Preparation of patients, medications, and equipment for surgery, and hands instruments and materials to the veterinarian during surgical procedures. May assist veterinarians with emergent or specialized patient care. This job classification does not require credentialing to perform the duties mentioned above and pertains to those employees whose experience or on-the-job training has developed the necessary skillset and capabilities. Open availability, overnight, and weekends are required.
