
Manager, Protection and Control Engineering

- Responsible to manage engineering team performing analysis and reporting for protective relay operations across the NYPA system, directly managing NYPA's PRC-004 program.
- Manages execution of corrective action plans identified by the PSA team and recommends design standard changes to Protection & Control Engineering (PCE).
- Responsible for technical oversight of NYPA's DME (Digital Monitoring Equipment) across the NYPA fleet and associated NERC/NPCC standards. Coordinate requirements with Protection & Control Engineering and D&D for upgrades and replacements of DME.
- Responsible for technical support of NYPA's Maintenance and Testing program under PRC-005.
- Oversee the maintenance and continuous improvement of the NERC/NPCC compliance program and associated policies and procedures
- Develops staff in key areas of expertise to support protection system analysis, maintenance and testing.
- Manage employees including performance management, salary administration, succession planning and workload balancing.
- Experience in analysis and troubleshooting of protection & control systems, communications, and testing of such systems.
- Broad understanding of power system design, operation, maintenance and testing methods.
- Effectively manage engineering personnel as well as cross functional teams.
- Ability to produce clear and concise written documents and oral presentations on technical, business and social issues.
- Strong platform skills and ability to tailor presentation to the technical understanding of any audience.
- Capable of building teams and fostering teamwork amongst both management and bargaining unit personnel; strong collaborative and negotiation skills to influence senior management, peers, outside policy makers and other NYPA personnel.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering or equivalent. A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Minimum 5 years applicable experience preferred
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in NYS.
- A working knowledge of industry codes and standards, such as IEEE, IEC and NEC.
- Ability to access all areas of the plant including ability to climb and work at high elevations and in confined spaces; ability to walk a significant distance, sometimes on uneven ground.
- A willingness to travel as much as 25% is required.
