This is a temporary, part-time, as-needed role focused on providing expert consulting services in emergency management and readiness reporting. The consultant will assist with NIMS training, strategic planning, and exercise development to enhance statewide preparedness and resilience.Day in the Life of a Special Consultant at HansonHere’s a snapshot of what you would do in this role:
Assist IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation) with planning and delivery of NIMS training across districts.
Design, execute, and evaluate emergency response exercises in alignment with HSEEP guidelines.
Support specialized response teams, including Urban Search and Rescue, HAZMAT, Technical Rescue, and Water Rescue.
Serve as liaison and representative for emergency coordination efforts (e.g., MABAS, State EOC).
Contribute to Emergency Operations Plan development and security planning.
Collaborate with civil and military stakeholders to improve emergency preparedness and response.

Formal training in emergency management, homeland security, or related fields
Certification or experience in ICS 100–400 and Unified Command
Familiarity with Homeland Security Exercise Evaluation Program (HSEEP)
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
Extensive experience in emergency management and homeland security consulting
Proven success in strategic planning and change management
Experience supporting National Guard and state-level emergency response teams
Background in readiness systems such as the Defense Readiness Reporting System
Prior involvement with MABAS, IEMA, and IDOT or similar agencies
