ResponsibilitiesPRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises designated support staff, including orienting, training, accountability, counseling and evaluating
Supports department leadership in hiring processes and administering disciplinary action
Supervises Support Technicians to ensure adequate, efficient and consistent response to operating room requests related to equipment, supplies, instrumentation, specimen transport, blood/tissue, cleaning, patient moving/positioning and others
Facilitates the timely and accurate fulfillment and delivery of surgical supplies and instrumentation to operating rooms
Ensures a timely response from support technicians and other applicable staff to assist with room turnovers
Develops and maintains equipment inventory lists for the purposes of managing regular maintenance and life-cycle planning for general-use surgical equipment
Establishes efficient and effective equipment storage solutions
Reviews daily schedule to ensure that appropriate equipment and required instruments and supplies are readily available for procedures to include coordination with third-party vendors and representatives; prioritizes conflicting operational needs to ensure the safe and efficient completion of the daily surgical schedule
Coordinates with SPD to identify instruments and trays to be turned over for same-day needs and those to be prioritized for the upcoming surgery schedule
Regularly review preference cards and facilitates preference card change request process
Serves as the primary liaison for the department with surgeons for surgical needs
Ensures operational documentation standards are met, including, but not limited to, temperature/humidity, refrigerators/freezers, warmers, eye wash stations, crash/emergency carts and human tissue management
May be asked to perform the duties and responsibilities of a surgical technologist
Identifies individual staff training needs and takes appropriate action to ensure departmental success
Assists in the development and implementation of department goals, objectives, policies and procedures supporting the hospital’s needs. Works with departmental and Surgical Services leadership to identify and implement plans for process improvement
Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Manager.
Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as JCAHO.
