Summary of Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesCoordinates and provides support for the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and State Authorization compliance. Manages protocols, reviews, approvals, and records related to research involving human subjects; research involving animals; and research and reporting related to complying with state authorization and professional licensure requirements. This position requires attention to detail, comprehending and understanding complicated regulations and reports, and the ability to provide clear feedback or summaries based upon these materials.
  • Receive confidential IRB protocols for university faculty/staff/students; ensure that potential risks to humans are minimized through appropriate procedures and sound research design with informed consent sought from each prospective participant or the participant's legally authorized representative
  • Evaluate and process protocol applications with appropriate communication with the applicants
  • Review/evaluate to determine if the required information has been submitted with maintaining appropriate confidential files in a secure database
  • Conduct reviews of all exempt protocols; conduct weekly meetings of IRB subcommittees for expedited protocols and monthly meetings for full IRB Board for full review protocols
  • Coordinate documents and serve as scribe for those meetings
  • Write letters to applicants and committee decisions; update files and database; track responses and determine if further action of applicant, IRB subcommittee and/or IRB Board.
  • Manage the closing process for approved protocols
  • Obtain appropriate continuing education to attain/maintain status as a Certified IRB Professional and to keep abreast of changes in the federal requirements for IRB work
  • Coordinate with the chair of IACUC to maintain records and ensure research compliance.
  • For IRB and IACUC projects and grants, track and report researchers' completion of required training and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate with university administration and program directors to ensure Murray State complies with Federal and state regulations related to distance education, state authorization, and professional licensure disclosure
  • Coordinate with academic program direction to research professional licensure/certification requirements in the U.S. States and territories and determine where Murray State programs meet educational requirements
  • Maintain and update databases and web pages with professional licensure disclosure information
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree.
Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements
  • CIP certification or a commitment to achieving CIP certification within two years of hiring date.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty and students.
Preferred Education and/or Experience Qualifications
  • Masters or Doctoral degree.
  • Experience working with an IRB board, IACUC board, or other research compliance board.
  • Experience researching and implementing educational regulations and policies.
  • Knowledge of research design.
