This position is eligible for the employee housing program with available inventory.Position SummaryThis position supports the effective and efficient delivery of business and financial services across all district departments including the administration of and compliance with all related district policies and state and federal laws, as well as short and long range financial planning.This position performs mid to advanced level accounting functions specific to the District’s financial operations with an emphasis on general ledger accounting and financial reporting. This position plays a major role in the production of district interim and audited financial statements. This role includes budget to actual analysis, recording transactions pertaining to day-to-day activities for the District, grant tracking and accounting, analysis and reconciliations of balance sheet and bank accounts for the District, and ensures accurate recording of transactions.Position Responsibilities
- Accounting, annual audits, and financial statements
- Provides necessary monthly and year-end general ledger journal entries
- Responsible for implementing and maintaining internal controls for the safety of funds being disbursed and receipted
- Responsible for the monthly reconciliation of the main district operating account and preparing associated reconciling journal entries
- Assists in coordinating the annual audit and preparing the Annual Financial Report
- Financial planning, budgeting, and asset management
- Manage and participate in the development and implementation of the goals and objectives of the strategic plan ensuring alignment of the annual budget to the priorities of the plan.
- Provide support to the annual budget development process and appropriate stakeholder groups.
- Support the CFO in providing training and coaching to school and department leaders and district stakeholder regarding district financial policies and procedures.
- Monitors expenditures and communicate expenditure information to school leaders and other stakeholders
- Maintains systems for recording, tracking, monitoring, and inventorying district assets
- Policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Works with the Chief Financial Officer to maintain and improve a strong system of internal controls including policies, procedures, communication, training for staff, and periodic monitoring to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Board policy, administrative regulations, and state statute
- Maintains current knowledge of school district finance, accounting, and budget laws and regulations
- Ensure policies are updated periodically to comply with all requirements for the receipt of federal funds
- Interpret policies and procedures and make recommendations for revisions to existing policies and addition of new policies.
- Ensure compliance with existing policies through training and periodic monitoring.
- Other accounting and finance duties
- Exercises a high degree of independent judgment and discretion in planning and coordinating in order to meet the fiscal accountability goals of the district
- Collaborate with payroll, benefits and operations management teams and customer service among departmental teams.
- Establish and maintain procedures for accounting for assigned funds and projects.
- Research and document recommendations on governmental accounting standards, new pronouncements and proposed accounting treatments, with an emphasis on GASB and generally accepting accounting principles.
- Maintain fixed asset records in accordance with state rules and regulations and generally accepted accounting principles including annual inventory, entry of additions and disposals in the district’s fixed asset system, and calculation and recording of depreciation.
- Provides spreadsheet, database, and word processing support to the business and finance offices
- Reconciles bank statements and credit card and charge card statements
- Record monthly property tax receipts
- Distribute grant information and requirements
- Supports Chief Financial Officer with state reporting, as needed
- Attend occasional Board of Education meetings
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting or equivalent training and experience.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), MA, and/or MBA in a related field
- Experience in a governmental accounting setting
- Experience in preparation of audited financial statements
- Excel Certified, Office Proficient
- Office environment; exposure to computer screens
- Primary functions may require maintaining the physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of time; use of a computer keyboard; lifting of files, etc.
- Physical: Reaching, walking, standing, sitting, typing, talking, crouching, kneeling, seeing, and hearing. Lifting up to 25lbs.
