- Perform technical nursing duties under the supervision of the Charge Nurse who is a Registered Nurse and assists with other related duties involved in providing age-appropriate patient care.
- Administers medications, assists with patient teaching, assists Health Aides and other staff with patient care and non-clinical tasks.
- Performs approved techniques to prevent and safely manage aggressive behaviors.
- Documents care according to policy, provides direct care, and participates with patients in divisional activities.
- Records and reports all observed signs, symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in the patient's condition to the Registered Nurse.
- Follows policies and procedures in reporting medication errors. Administers medications to patients, orally or by injection, including intra-venous medications and treatments.
- Participates with interdisciplinary team. Assists with admitting, discharging, and transferring patients.
- Takes action to ensure patients' safety and to maintain a safe environment.
- Participates in team meetings, development of plan of care, and shift reports.
- Participates in an orientation consisting of supervised on the job training.
- Be able to recognize Medical Emergencies and respond appropriately.
- Maintain acceptable standards of patient care consistent with Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare, and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Department policies, including diet and physical activity.
- Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with Supplier leave policies and performs other duties as assigned.
- Responds to hospital codes as appropriate.
- One (1) year psychiatric nursing experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse is required.
- LPNs work experience with either Mental Health, Acute Care and Co-occurring Mental health settings is required for this Contract.
- LPNs shall have basic office equipment (copier/fax) and computer literacy skills.
- Experience with data or word processing applications (Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, Access, Word, etc.) and working in an Electronic Health Record Management System.
- Perform visual, audio logical screening, tuberculosis (TB), HIV, Hepatitis C screening and pregnancy testing as indicated, within Twenty-Four (24) hours of admission, including reading TB test within Forty-Eight (48) hours of patient admission and enter all information in patient's electronic medical record and/ or physical medical chart as indicated or directed by Department.
- Document Nursing notes, observations of specific physical or behavioral signs and symptoms.
- Administer prescribed medication as ordered by a Physician. Transcribe orders to the appropriate Medication Administration Record. Order Medications from Pharmacy and check for accuracy when receiving medications before storing in a secure area.
- Perform proper disposition of used hypodermic apparatus and biohazard waste.
- Provide Health Education on a One-to-One (Nurse to Patient) basis.
- Be able to recognize Medical Emergencies and respond appropriately.
- Documents care according to policy, provides direct care, and participates with patients in diversional activities.
- Records and reports all observed signs, symptoms, reactions, treatments, and vital sign changes in the patient's condition to the Registered Nurse.
- Be able to identify and recognize any medical problems to escalate to the next level Provider (Registered Nurse, attending Provider, medical director, or designee).
- Skilled in evaluating the effectiveness of the Nursing Care Plan
- Observes adverse reactions to medications or treatment and takes necessary action.
