ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll be challenged to do:The Kansas City office is looking for a planning intern to join the team. The intern will apply planning theory and knowledge to assist more experienced staff in meeting client needs. Common project areas include master planning, multimodal transportation planning, transit planning, environmental analysis, and grant writing. The right candidate will be working with a team of planners, engineers, and other related professionals and should be collaborative, flexible, and willing to take on a variety of projects.General duties and responsibilities include the following:
  • Perform assignments with the assistance of project managers and/or senior planners
  • Conduct research and documentation for project tasks
  • Compile and analyze data as required by federal, state, and local standards of regulations
  • Gather and analyze data to present materials such as graphics and maps
  • Work as part of a team to visualize solution concepts and assist in preparing recommendations for alternatives
  • Prepare materials to support public engagement efforts and stakeholder coordination
  • Attend and participate in internal team meetings and applies feedback when making project revisions
  • Occasionally participate in site visits, client meetings, or public and stakeholder meetings
QualificationsWhat you bring to our firm:
  • Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Planning, Engineering, or related field
  • Candidate should be eager to learn, be a team player, and conduct work in a professional and timely manner
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, GIS, and/or Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) preferred
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members
