Position: Director of Veteran ServicesStatus: Full-time Regular (exempt)Reports to: Vice President for Enrollment ManagementSalary: $65,000.00DescriptionThe Director of Veteran Services is responsible for coordinating, managing and implementing strategic methods to recruit and retain Veterans and Veteran benefit eligible students.The Director of Veteran Services serves as a Veterans Affairs (VA) School Certifying Official (SCO) for the College and assists veterans and active military personnel with the GI Bill and other educational benefits.Why work for Paul Smith's College? Benefits that professional staff with Paul Smith's College receive:Tuition waiver for employee and dependents for all Paul Smith's courses and programsExpansive and competitive insurance programsFree recreational rentals (Kayaks, X-C skis, etc.)High quality programs for work-life balanceCompetitive vacation, sick and float daysPension participation.Remote days.Campus connected to miles of walking, skiing, and hiking trails with lake office views.Duties & ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain broad knowledge of GI Bill benefits for certifying veterans for educational benefits.Inform students about the processes to determine their eligibility for GI Bill educational benefits processes to include, GI Bill education benefits certification, regulations of the GI Bill and student code of conduct, deadlines of transfer application, registration, payment processing, verification forms and eligible programs for VA benefits.Maintain files for veterans for Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) and Higher Education Commission required compliance audits.Perform degree evaluation audits each semester to ensure students' classes are required for their curriculum. Verify prior training and college credits for the student's program of study.Serve as College liaison to DVA, Regional Offices, and local (DVA) -Vocational Rehabilitation specialists.Certify student enrollment for VA benefits.Serve as liaison to any offices on campus involved in the recruitment and transcript evaluation processes.Communicate and develop positive relations with internal and external constituents, especially with Fort Drum, the U.S. Army military reservation and a census-designated place in Jefferson County.Assist with related duties as assigned by the Vice President Marketing & Enrollment Management.Complete other duties as assigned.The Director will be responsible for the Recruitment and Retention of Veterans. This will require the following duties and responsibilities are performed:Develop and implement a travel schedule targeted toward the recruitment of veterans; including military base visits, college fairs, reintegration events and other on and off campus events which will promote Paul Smith's College to veterans.Act as liaison between PSC and the Veteran Administration and supporting VA agencies on the local, state, and federal level.Process and maintain application forms and files for first time in college, transfer, returning and continuing veteran students.Manage the case load related to veterans including implementation of various elements of the PSC recruitment communication plan, counseling prospective veteran students regarding admissions processes, admissions application processing, transcript evaluation, and tele-counseling.Assist with coordination of orientation of incoming student veterans.Serve as liaison to campus offices involved in the recruitment of veterans.Maintains current knowledge of changes in Federal and State legislation affecting Veterans Affairs Programs; attend workshops and conferences for training on veteran's issues.Research, respond and resolve all VA related issues.Advocate for veterans and their concerns with academic divisions, student services counselors, and administrative personnel; aid in resolving problems in relation to veteran student issues.Troubleshoot problems with registration, fees, student records, grades, and academic standing.Assist with development of veteran services publications, email communication and online information.Provide information on resources available to veterans and their families both on and off campus.Supervise, hire, train, and evaluate the performance of work study personnel.Serve as member of Veteran's Advisory CouncilMaintain directory of off campus resources (housing, daycare, vet services, etc.)

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and make a positive impression with prospective students, their parents, and community college professionals.
  • Ability to understand and present essential information about the college and its programs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently within a fast-paced environment.
  • Clean driving record and a valid license.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. and set up a simple display.
  • Some evening and weekend work required.
