The Ohio Attorney General’s Office is currently seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented individual for a Consumer Protection Investigator 1 position in the Consumer Protection Section. This successful candidate will have knowledge of consumer protection laws and rules and related federal and state regulations, investigation practices and techniques and case preparation in order to assist higher-level consumer protection investigators and learn to investigate consumer fraud and prepare cases for civil litigation and/or criminal prosecution. This position will work a hybrid in-person/remote schedule. There may be changes to the schedule based on training and operational needs. The position will be headquartered at 30 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio.The duties for the Consumer Protection Investigator 1 include but are not limited to the following:- Learns to conduct and assists higher-level consumer protection investigators in conducting covert and overt investigations of consumer fraud for criminal and civil prosecution (e.g., conducts on-site, computer, database, telephone and/or internet searches)- Locates and interviews witnesses, victims, suppliers, informants and suspects;- Collects, inventories, examines, evaluates and preserves evidence;- Conducts surveillance of suspected targets; assumes covert identities, infiltrates supplier operations, telemarketing boiler rooms, pyramid schemes and other criminal and civil environments) and planning, executing and coordinating investigative activities with federal, state, and/or local law enforcement agencies (e.g., assists prosecutors in conducting depositions and drafting interrogatories, requests for documents);- Prepares affidavits for and executes search warrants in conjunction with law enforcement officers;- Coordinates trial preparation; prepares witnesses, obtains witness statements and affidavits; prepares summaries and exhibits; calculates victim damages and develops settlement options;- Prepares and serves subpoenas; testifies at administrative and court hearings, criminal and civil trials and before grand juries.- Reviews, analyzes and correlates case documentation; prepares and maintains case logs, investigative reports, summaries and case recommendations.QualificationsCompletion of undergraduate core course work in criminology, criminal justice or other comparable field of study; 3 years experience or training in criminal and/or civil investigative procedures; must be able to provide own transportation.-Or 3 years experience as Consumer Complaint Specialist 1, 26351AG; must be able to provide own transportation.-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.Job Skills: investigation, adaptability, attention to detail, confidentiality, written communication, and verbal communication
