Under general direction of the Director for Facilities and IT, major duties include overseeing the IT services, equipment, software, databases, and systems which support the operations of the department. This position serves as the primary link to SJSU Information Technology department to ensure smooth and effective collaboration and partnership for compliance and managing of services. This position will supervise IT Specialists in the routine and specific troubleshooting requests and services for the department. Serves as a backup to other IT staff in the event of their absence.Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement short- and long-term IT strategies aligned with the goals of the Student Union, Recreation Center, and Event Center.
- Evaluate new technologies and make recommendations for upgrades or new systems to improve user experience, security, and operational efficiency.
- Coordinate with university central IT to ensure alignment with institutional policies and infrastructure.
- Provide resources, responses, and follow-through on any CSU audits of auxiliary areas relevant for IT work.
- Oversee and manage the performance, maintenance, and upgrades of all IT systems including the following:
- Network infrastructure (wired and wireless)
- Servers and storage systems
- Security systems (e.g., cameras, access control)
- Digital signage and display systems
- Recreation software (e.g., for facility check-in, class registration)
- In conjunction with SU Audio/Visual (A/V) department in Event Services, ensure operational infrastructure for systems in meeting rooms and large event spaces.
- Ensure system backups, disaster recovery plans, and security protocols are in place and tested.
- Oversees systems and procedures in alignment with contemporary regulatory compliance.
- Ensure and oversee responsive technical support for staff, students, and guests using IT systems.
- Supervise, assign tasks, evaluate performance and provide coaching and professional development opportunities for IT Specialists and oversee student employees; create documentation and onboarding materials for student employees.
- Works with team members to release information regarding changes, installs, fixes, and system enhancements.
- Develop and manage the IT department’s budget.
- Oversee procurement of hardware, software, and services in accordance with university policies.
- Ensure compliance with university IT policies, accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG), and data privacy regulations (e.g., FERPA).
- Participate in leadership meetings to provide input on technology planning and integration.
- Ensure inventory of all IT equipment and licenses.
- Oversees and delegates light application maintenance and support, including web sites, scheduling system, and document management systems.
- Leads cross-functional teams to solve complex business or systems issues when needed
- Maintain an on-call system to effectively navigate emergencies related to IT within the department and in conjunction with SJSU IT.

- A bachelor’s degree in related field; and five years of full-time experience in an IT-related field.

- Understanding of networking, cybersecurity best practices, and other policies and practices.
- Skills associated with analysis of processes and problems, information flow and architecture.
- Experience working in higher education and an auxiliary.
- Experience supervising other full-time staff.
- Experience supporting or integrating with university systems.
