- Communicating and working effectively with other Exponent staff at all levels of the company
- Designing, planning and executing laboratory tests to support battery failure analysis, abuse testing, and quality assessment projects
- Operating and maintaining battery test equipment
- Analyzing data and reporting results at an appropriate technical level for the intended audience
- Conducting hands-on failure analysis of batteries and battery-containing devices
- Performing materials characterization, using techniques such as photography, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray computed tomography scanning, and electrochemical analysis techniques
- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Hands-on experience working on batteries and/or electrochemical energy storage devices in a laboratory setting
- Hands-on experience designing, constructing, and maintaining custom test apparatuses in a laboratory settin
- Experience in data analysis programmatically (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or R); knowledge of Python, Pandas and Matplotlib preferred
- Experience performing materials characterization using techniques such as photography, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray computed tomography scanning, and electrochemical analysis
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Must be able to convey complex technical information to individuals in engineering, business, legal, and related industries
- Ability to work within project teams with strong desire to contribute and collaborate
- Strong organization and project management skills
- Potential for technical and project managerial leadership
- Presently legally authorized to work in the US, no immigration sponsorship or visa processing required
