For additional information on remote work at Penn State, see .POSITION SPECIFICS​The Penn State (OPP) is seeking applicants for a Skilled Trades Supervisor.Skilled Trades Supervisors hire, train, evaluate, develop, and supervise skilled trades personnel. Supervisory responsibilities include prioritizing and scheduling work assignments; establishing work sequence; coordinating utility shutdowns; planning and overseeing equipment maintenance and repair; coordinating with outside vendors, contractors, subcontractors; providing technical expertise and consultation; participating in government agency inspections; administering budgets; monitoring inventories; adhering to and enforcing regulatory, policy, and bargaining unit requirements.During a typical work shift from Friday to Monday, 6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off), the supervisor will lead, supervise, and direct technical service personnel to deliver responsive, high-quality, and cost-effective facility maintenance services. Effectively manage human, financial, and material resources. Coordinate with internal and external departments to achieve shared goals and support OPP’s mission and the University.Provide leadership to all BMS employees working Saturday and Sunday, including two direct reports and other technicians working overtime. Offer supplemental leadership to all OPP Operations personnel on weekends through on-site interaction, direction as needed, and communication with employee leadership. In collaboration with the Area 7 Supervisor, support ICA needs and events.Job Responsibilities:Hire, train, evaluate, develop, and supervise skilled trades personnelPrioritize, schedule, and assign work crews and equipment; arrange for equipment repair and maintenanceEstablish work sequence, including trades coordination and utility shutdowns; monitor deadlinesConduct site visits; ensure regulation and job specification compliance; discuss, resolve, refer, and report issuesCoordinate with customers, outside vendors, contractors, and subcontracted workforce; provide informal estimates for servicesProvide technical expertise/consultation; confer and collaborate with engineers, designers, architects, planners, estimators, etc.; analyze problems and recommend solutionsCoordinate and participate in government agency inspectionsAdminister budgets and monitor inventory; identify cost containment measures; research, recommend, and order equipment/materialsCommunicate, enforce, and make recommendations for work rules, policies, and proceduresEnsure a safe work environment; participate in emergency planning and response; investigate accidents and prepare reportsFollow Collective Bargaining Agreement; participate in grievance procedures, hearings, and arbitrationsMINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS Associate Degree 4+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: NoneBACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
