We are committed to inspiring the next generation of scientists and educators.The at the is seeking to hire a part-time Assistant Research Technician to join his research team. The R. Jones lab aims to understand the molecular mechanisms by which metabolic pathways regulate T cell function in cancer and autoimmunity.This position is available immediately for a motivated undergraduate student who has graduated from high school within the past 2 years and meets the qualifications and description outlined below. This NIH-funded position will focus on validating models of autoimmune disease. The individual will be responsible for performing standard laboratory research procedures and records and present data in an established format.Dr. Jones’ research focuses on immunometabolism, with the specific goal of understanding how metabolic pathways can be manipulated to control cancer or curb autoimmune disease. The position offers an exciting opportunity to work with lab scientists to study metabolic and epigenetic programming of T cells and how this impacts their function in immune models. The candidate will work with Dr. Jones and his research team to identify areas of interest and explore opportunities to translate findings into clinical treatments.Why choose the R.   • Contribute to the planning and execution of research experiments with input from lab members
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and timely records of experimental procedures and results
  • Consistently handle routine problems in execution of experiments on an independent basis, and seek input from Investigator and/or designee for more complex problems
  • Demonstrate proficiency in scientific methods and standard laboratory techniques
  • Participate in discussion of experimental procedures and results in formats established by the Investigator’s laboratory
  • Prepare solutions, media, or other reagents necessary for experimental procedures.
  • Perform other laboratory duties as requested
Qualifications
  • A self-driven and hard-working individual who has a strong curiosity about basic science and its clinical application
  • High schhol diploma, with 0-3 years of study in a relevant college program (i.e., molecular biology, cell biology, mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline)
  • A collegial team member with the ability to interact effectively and cordially with colleagues.
  • An organized scientist who pays attention to detail and values research integrity.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills
As the ideal candidate, you may also have:
  • Experience in molecular biology, including polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
  • Experience with bioinformatics and working knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. R) is considered an asset.
