Job Description:The Safety Trainer Lead supports the Safety Manager and serves as the day-to-day lead for operator and field-staff training. This role delivers and coordinates new-hire, refresher, and remedial training; conducts road observations and skill checks; maintains training records and compliance; and mentors a small team of trainers to drive a strong safety culture across Winston-Salem Transit operations.Requirements:Key ResponsibilitiesTraining Delivery & CoordinationLead new-hire operator training (classroom, yard, and road), including defensive driving, pre-trip/post-trip, ADA/wheelchair securement, fare policies, radio procedures, incident response, and customer service.Plan and deliver refresher, recertification, and remedial training; schedule and track completions.Facilitate Safety Meetings/Toolbox Talks and quarterly skills rodeos or check-rides.Field Coaching & Quality AssuranceConduct behind-the-wheel evaluations, route checks, and ride-alongs; document coaching and corrective actions.Perform random and targeted road observations (PPE use, seatbelts, mobile-device policy, stop procedures).Support post-collision retraining and return-to-duty skill validations.Compliance & DocumentationMaintain accurate training files and qualification cards; ensure alignment with company policy and regulatory requirements.Administer reasonable-suspicion training for supervisors and maintain rosters.Assist with audit preparation (internal, client, and regulatory).Safety Programs & Incident SupportSupport incident investigations (root-cause analysis, corrective action plans) and safety campaigns.Track and report safety KPIs (preventable collisions per 100k miles, injuries, near-misses, training completion).Participate in safety committees and hazard assessments; recommend engineering/administrative controls.Team Leadership & Stakeholder SupportMentor and schedule trainers/road supervisors when assigned; standardize lesson plans and checklists.Partner with Operations, Maintenance, and HR on onboarding, certification timelines, and performance improvement plans.Represent the Safety Manager when delegated.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required; associate's degree or relevant vocational training preferred.3+ years of transit, commercial driving, or safety/training experience (public transit strongly preferred).Valid CDL Class B with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).Strong classroom facilitation and behind-the-wheel coaching skills; confident with adult-learning principles.Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace; experience with LMS or training databases.Clear, professional communication; bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.Preferred QualificationsPrior role as Safety Trainer, Road Supervisor, or Instructor in fixed-route or paratransit operations.Knowledge of defensive-driving systems and ADA paratransit best practices.Experience conducting incident investigations and developing corrective action plans.OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, and/or instructor certifications.Physical & Work ConditionsFrequent driving of revenue and non-revenue vehicles for training/observation.Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs during equipment demos and training setup.Work in varied environments (yard, shop, on-street, inclement weather) with appropriate PPE.Flexible hours for operational needs (early mornings, evenings, occasional weekends/holidays).Why RATP Dev USA
