The Atlantic is seeking a skilled video producer to join the Atlantic’s podcast team. This producer will help develop and lead the production of a new weekly video podcast, to be published on YouTube as well as in its own audio podcast feed. The show’s producer will need the ability to act independently while also collaborating closely with the show’s host, editor, engineer, and the broader editorial team.Responsibilities include:Work with the host and editor to maintain editorial excellence and shepherd ideas through the creative process by pitching ideas and guests, pre-interviewing guests, and suggesting varied topics and formatsOversee end-to-end production of the show, from pre- to post-production, including:Work with editor to hone ideas, structure episodes and edit scripts
Studio production, getting the best from the host and guest and ensuring the taping covers all the necessary points;Post production, applying incisive editorial judgment to deliver sharp first drafts on tight deadlines;Cutting episodes, demonstrating knowledge of the tone and pacing necessary for a compelling listening experienceManage the show’s production calendarWork with teams across The Atlantic, including legal, art, audience, copy desk, story editors, and fact checkers to ensure the highest-quality production standardsCoordinate and manage all recording sessions, ensuring proper setup of lighting, audio, and camera equipment to ensure a smooth recording experience for the host and guestsEdit and enhance video content, adding graphics, transitions, and other elements to create a polished final productEnsure consistency in visual and audio quality across all episodesCollaborate with audience team to create promotional video clips for social mediaHandle all audio uploading to video and audio platforms.Qualifications of the ideal candidate:Proven experience in video production and editing (preferably in podcasting and journalism)Proficiency in taping and editing softwares, such as Riverside, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Final Cut ProStrong understanding of lighting, audio, and camera operation for high-quality video productionExperience with remote recording workflowsOutstanding editorial judgment, and strong communication and collaboration skillsDemonstrated track record of producing high-quality work on ambitious deadlines and experience finding creative solutions to editorial problemsFamiliarity with YouTube and podcast distribution platformsMotion graphics and animation experience preferredSalary minimum: $85,000; Salary maximum: $100,000This role is based in New York City or Washington D.C.This is a Guild position.About The Atlantic:The Atlantic has, for more than 160 years, advanced ideas that matter and sparked global conversation on the most important issues of our time.
