Description of WorkHuman Resources is seeking an enthusiastic Human Resources (Intern) to join our team and provide invaluable support to our HR department. Your role will involve performing a variety of administrative tasks, including updating employee records, screening resumes, and scheduling interviews.This internship will begin May 29, 2024, through July 31, 2024, 30 hours per week.This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain firsthand experience in HR operations and gain insight into our company's approach to payroll, recruiting, and employee development.As an HR Intern, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of our HR policies and procedures. Your attention to detail and organizational skills will be utilized in maintaining accurate employee records and assisting with various HR-related activities.
Additionally, you will have the chance to contribute to the coordination of organization events and gain exposure to different facets of HR management.This internship will teach you how to do the following:
Update our internal databases with new employee information, including contact details and employment forms.
  • Learn about agency human resource processes, procedures and policies within Human Resource niches to include but not limited to (Recruitment, Salary Administration, Classification & Compensation, Employee Relations, Safety & Risk Management, Benefits, Time & Leave, HRIS/Payroll, etc.)
  • Gather payroll data like leaves, working hours and direct deposit forms.
  • Learn and participate within the agency hiring process.
  • Prepare HR-related reports as needed, assistance with onboarding.
  • Gain experience in state government human resources.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
  • Basic to working knowledge of State HR systems and processes.
  • Basic knowledge of federal and state laws, and State policies, procedures and practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to handle confidential matters with tact and discretion; to express ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions within area of responsibility able to learn and apply rules, procedures, and practices for various human resources management activities or personnel actions.
Management Preferences:
An HR intern should have some experience in a similar junior HR role, and or office assistant role, familiarity with HRIS and resume databases, proficiency in MS Office, organizational skills, and a basic understanding of labor legislation.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Currently enrolled junior or senior level standing at an accredited college/university with a major in an accredited 4-year degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Applicants must carry a 2.0 or greater overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years old by January 1, 2024.
  • Applicants must be continuing their education for the duration of their participation in the internship or on break (Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer).
  • Applicants must be willing and able to work part-time throughout the duration of the internship.
  • Applicants must be able to provide legal proof of identity and work authorization within three working days of employment.
