Job Title: Survey TechnicianJob Description:The Survey Technician will be responsible for reading and interpreting utility maps to identify the type and size of underground utilities. The technician will operate electromagnetic detection equipment to locate and mark subsurface utilities accurately and perform thorough documentation of all completed work.Responsibilities:
  • Read and interpret construction plans and utility records.
  • Provide neat and clean sketches of utilities marked.
  • Understand and adhere to company-mandated health and safety standards.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Coordinate daily activities with the SUE manager.
  • Help maintain field supply inventory and report to the supervisor to ensure stock availability.
  • Keep the vehicle clean, free from trash, and ensure it is fueled.
Essential Skills:
  • Proficiency in subsurface utility engineering, land surveying, and utility locating.
  • Ability to use ground-penetrating radar.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in designating all types of utilities.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience with GPR is a plus.
  • Understanding of survey, mapping, and survey computations.
  • Knowledge of job-site and traffic control safety rules.
  • Proficiency in using basic calculators for arithmetic computations.
  • Strong ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
Work Environment:
  • Our organization offers a collaborative work environment with temporary assignments to other office projects, potentially requiring travel throughout Virginia and surrounding states.
  • This may include unexpected travel and weekend stays.
  • Employees must be willing to work overtime as needed.
