Become a part of our caring community and help us put health firstAt Humana Healthcare Research, the Director of Research Consulting leads Safety Monitoring and Collaboration Research Team and supports execution of claims-based research studies focused on drug and patients' safety, treatment adherence and effectiveness, including comparative effectiveness, as well as program evaluation studies. The Safety Monitoring and Collaboration Research Team's expertise includes areas of distributed research networks, multisite research, clinical outcomes, overall healthcare costs, recruitment for pragmatic trials, and impact of clinical programs. The collaborators include academic institutions (HHR typically serves as subcontractor on grant-funded projects), life science companies, funding agencies such as NIH or PCORI, as well as internal Humana stakeholders. The team has been a part of several Distributed Research Networks including the FDA Sentinel, PCORnet, NIH Collaboratory, and Innovation in Medical Evidence and Development Surveillance (IMEDS). Our claims databases represent geographic coverage for the entire US population and represent over 27 million lives.Success for the role will be defined by meeting revenue goals, the quality of published research, as well as the ability to meaningfully translate research findings into learnings that influence and support Humana's business decisions.Responsibilities:
  • The Director, Research Consulting leads a team of researchers to conduct distributed network safety monitoring studies, clinical outcomes validation studies using charts, recruitment for pragmatic trials, as well as clinical program evaluation studies
  • Develops team's revenue goals and implements strategies to deliver on goals
  • Serves as Principal Investigator on majority of studies contracted by the team, provides high-level oversight on research methodology and execution of the project, project budgets, and ensures timeliness of deliverables
  • Ensures compliance with company's and granting agency's regulatory requirements, including leading preparation of audit and other review responses
  • Develops and cultivates deep relationships with academic partners and, where appropriate, with funding agencies to identify new opportunities for impactful research
  • Provides feedback to senior leadership regarding market trends, competitor activity, and new product/services improvements in areas of safety monitoring and validation research
Use your skills to make an impactRequired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Pharmacoeconomics, Pharmacoepidemiology, Health Services Research, Public Health, Statistics, Economics, or related field
  • 8 or more years of research experience
  • 5 or more years of management experience, including building, nurturing, and motivating highly engaged teams.
  • 2 or more years of P&L responsibilities
  • Experience with PCORI and NIH grant application and administration process, including compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Experience with distributed research networks, claims-based health outcomes and health costs research
  • Experience interpreting and communicating analytic results to analytical and non-analytical business partners and executive decision makers
Preferred Qualifications
  • MD or PhD highly preferred
  • Experience conducting multi-stakeholder research studies, especially collaboration research with academic institutions
  • Experience conducting research in industry setting, ideally in payer or life-science organizations
  • Experience conducting research in senior populations, including understanding of various Medicare programs and benefit designs, especially Medicare Advantage
  • Established publication track record in peer-reviewed journals
