The incumbent ensures that automation solutions meet the needs of business operations and adhere to Publix Technology and Industrial Operations Information Technology standards. The Part Time Industrial Operations Software Engineer - Automation also ensures that automation solutions meet regulatory requirements and do not negatively impact operations. The Part Time Industrial Operations Software Engineer - Automation reports to the Industrial Operations IT Delivery Manager.The primary responsibilities for this position include:
  • support existing Publix Industrial Operations automation systems. This includes programming of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), Machine Vision systems, and HMI/SCADA systems
  • design and implement new automation systems in Publix Industrial Operations
  • design, implement, and support production reporting systems needed to provide information required for tactical and strategic decisions made by Industrial Operations associates and management and
  • develop training materials to instruct maintenance and operations associates in the use of automation equipment and systems.

In subsequent years, the bonus is equal to 8 hours' pay if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check.Maximum Base Pay41.30Required Qualifications
  • Enrolled in a junior level or higher for a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related engineering field or equivalent experience
  • at least one year of experience in supporting control systems (experience can be gained through college coursework)
  • knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
  • knowledge of Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs)
  • knowledge of SQL Server database administration
  • ability to operate PLCs, HMI, and SCADAs
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, and Word) or equivalents
  • ability to analyze information and be detail-oriented
  • ability to work independently and productively
  • ability to “think outside the box” with regards to problem-solving
  • ability to present work/findings in a concise, high level manner
  • ability to meet deadlines

Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related Engineering field * 1 year of experience with automation
  • ISA (International Society of Automation) Certified Automation Professional
  • Strong knowledge of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
