We value autonomy and taking initiative, but we also believe in supporting one another and working together.What You Will DoAs an Engineering Manager, you’ll play a dual role: guiding, supporting, and growing a team of talented engineers, while contributing hands-on to our Rails/Vue codebase. You’ll champion best practices, foster a joyful and collaborative culture, and partner with leadership to scale processes and systems as the company grows.Responsibilities
- Serve as the functional manager for two development teams, overseeing performance management, career growth, and team health
- Partner with engineering and company leadership to champion and evolve processes as the company scales
- Lead with high emotional intelligence, creating a supportive, collaborative, and motivating environment
- Partner with product managers and team leads to ensure teams have clear priorities and resources to succeed
- Build trust with direct reports and cross-functional partners by collaborating and following through on commitments
- Coach engineers through technical and professional challenges with candid and compassionate feedback
- Contribute hands-on to the Rails/Vue codebase (~20–30% of your time) to support roadmap execution and model best practices
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong skills in Ruby on Rails (or similar SaaS frameworks)
- 2+ years of engineering management or team leadership experience, ideally as a functional manager
- Proven ability to balance hands-on development with people leadership
- High emotional intelligence—empathy, active listening, and conflict resolution come naturally to you
- Experience guiding teams through change, growth, and ambiguity
- Strong technical and interpersonal communication skills
- Commitment to improving access to early childhood education
- Bonus: Experience with Vue.js, enterprise SaaS, edtech, govtech, or healthcare technology sectors
