We're seeking a Senior Environmental and Safety Specialist with a whatever-it-takes approach to join our team! In this full-time role, you'll be responsible for developing, coordinating, training and provide professional consultation and technical expertise associated with environmental, health and safety matters. Plan and execute a comprehensive safety management system designed to manage safety elements in the workplace. Safety plan will include policy, objectives, plans, and procedures for the organization.WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:
  • Design, develop and implement a Risk Reduction Safety System with related policies and procedures. System to recognize and eliminate occupational safety and health hazards, including hazards which are recognized as risks to team members, but may not directly be covered by OSHA or DEQ regulations.
  • In coordination with the Safety Manager, assist with evaluation and selection of new equipment and the development of related procedures.
  • Leads the development, maintenance, and delivery of Safety training for managers and team members.
  • Support adherence to regulations and recommend corrective actions to management when needed.
  • Represent SMC . through engagement, coordination, and participation with local, state and regional safety groups and regulatory organizations.
  • Assist, develop, analyze and present data required for legal hearings. Coordinate and update training, policies and/or procedures as necessary in coordination of claims.
  • Create and upkeep a safety database to report on injury causation trends, and mitigation options for reducing injury frequency and severity.
  • Assist with the adherence/completion of all operational requirements regarding OSHA and Safety.
  • Collect and report data regarding the community, Safety Representative, team training records, and best practices of the team.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, coordination, and maintenance of DOT activities and documentation, including vehicle inspection reports, annual training, medical evaluations, and certifications.
  • Assist with the outreach and establishment of a Safety Vendor List and review/update annually.
  • Maintain professional and technical work knowledge and/or required certifications by attending educational workshops, review professional publications, establish personal networks and participate in professional organizations.
  • Create the training materials for the "Train the Trainer" program. for Safety Representatives to enhance Team Safety and Environmental Awareness.
  • Review and analyze all incidents and workers compensation injuries to determine optimal training frequency and delivery methods.
  • Review, create, and update the Safety and Environmental procedures, manuals and supporting documents on a yearly basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager and/or Supervisor
  • Contribute to team/company engagement efforts
JOB KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of existing and new legislation, anticipate future legislation and interpret standards
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations
  • Safety and environmental hazards identification measures
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of team members and management
  • Ability to identify safety and environmental related concerns and recommend solutions and response actions
  • Effective communication with SMC Directors, Property Managers and Team Members by providing feedback, support and information regarding safety and environmental performance, asbestos, lead paint, mold, radio frequency, refrigerant use, and other policies, procedures or legal matters
  • Ability to communicate concerns regarding corrective actions in an effective, positive and progressive manner

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in safety, environmental, or mechanical system safety or a related field
  • Five (5) years professional safety experience, manager, operation and maintenance programs, quality assurance, and/or related certifications
